Prox Dynamics will make the worlds smallest UAS

Top scientists and engineers join forces with former jetfighter pilot to start a new aerospace company. Prox Dynamics AS will develop the worlds smallest and most capable Unmanned Aircraft System for close range surveillance and inspection.

OSLO, NORWAY, March 31, 2008. The Black Hornet from Prox Dynamics AS, a small video camera equipped helicopter not more than 100 mm long, weighing less than 20 grams, can be carried in your pocket and launched within seconds to give immediate situational awareness. New and innovative advances in micro flight technology, micro sized electronic sensors and groundbreaking battery performance are combined to make this new ultra small aircrafts from Prox Dynamics a handy tool in situations where a closer look at a hostile area or inside a contaminated building is crucial.

President & CEO of Prox Dynamics, Petter Muren, has more than 20 years experience in R&D related work. He is the founder and owner of the company Proxflyer that designed the highly successful ITC Bladerunner series of radio controlled toy helicopters. Currently more than 2 million helicopters have been sold. For the last 4 years he has also held the record in designing and building the worlds smallest remotely controlled helicopter. His current record helicopter is only 70 mm long, weighing less than one gram, equal to 1/5 of a sheet of paper.

Petter Muren will be joined by two very experienced engineers who held key technical positions in the video conferencing company Tandberg ASA. Trygve Marton was Director of Acoustics & Signal Processing while Geir Morten Mellem was HW Manager, responsible for all the electronic development. Dag Henning Paulsen will be responsible for marketing and government contact in Prox Dynamics. He started out as a pilot in the Norwegian Air Force and is now pilot and Chief of staff in SAS Norge. “We will be looking for dedicated and talented technical and commercial people to join the team. First priority will be to hire a young engineer with exceptional model building skills combined with additional software and electronic knowledge”, says Petter Muren.

The company plans to release the first version of the Black Hornet micro helicopter in 2009 with expected volume shipments to key customers in 2010. “We are currently finalizing the specifications for this extremely small and advanced helicopter. We will develop a kind of aircraft so far only seen in science fiction movies. This will be a very exiting project and we are all looking forward to get the first prototypes in the air”, says Trygve Marton, CTO of Prox Dynamics. “Potential customers will range from scientists and engineers to police, fire fighters, military and special forces.”

The four co-founders and early investors will contribute well over US$ 1 million in start-up capital and the company will seek to establish further financial support through other Norwegian institutions to complete the development phase and to start marketing and production. “Our long term goal is to establish a 2% market share in a US$ 3 billion market, currently growing over 10% per year”, says Petter Muren.

Prox Dynamics AS will be fully operational April 1st, 2008.
