Hornet-4d makes first flight

ASKER, NORWAY, December 7th, 2010. Our tenth prototype, the Hornet-4d, made its first flight today. Externally it is almost identical to the two previous aircraft, but improvements have been made to both mechanics and electronics onboard the UAV.

Flight testing of the Hornet-4 series has been taking place all through this autumn, including GPS aided autonomous flights in gusty conditions and sub freezing temperatures. Among the three prototypes more than 400 flights and 100 flight hours have been logged.

Also initiated this autumn are integrated system tests that adds an operational perspective to the development. These experiments were performed outdoors in a realistic urban terrain. Each “mission” had specific objectives such as providing information on a point of interest, navigation through complex terrain etc, providing us with invaluable feedback.
